Sorry, I read it as "59 percent of Arizonans..." ( have not had enough coffee yet )

I guess my point still stands. Just because a majority feel something is "right" does not make it so...

GOSH! THE LAW HONESTLY MEANS YOU JUST DON'T WANT ILLEGALS HERE!! REGARDLESS IF YOU ARE RACIST OR NOT!!!

Thats how I feel. I call it, applying for citizenship the damn right way. HELLO!?!?!
You know what's interesting? Maybe not for some people living here, but in other parts of the country? All my friends here are hispanic in origin, and all of them, except for one, agrees about that aspect, "applying for citizenship the damn right way". Most of them are otherwise Democrats too. The media is attempting to portray this politically, as if the Democrats are against the legislation, and the Republicans for it. Not true: this is an across the board issue. Most oppose it, irrespective of other political beliefs, or based on ethnic origin.

Everyone I know who is against this law realizes that there is an immigration problem in the US and that the whole thing needs to be overhauled.
Picking out the illegals one at a time ( or by carload ) by asking for proof of citizenship during traffic stops does nothing to realistically address the issue, it just causes a rift in relations within and around Arizona.

Okay, fair enough.

Your solution is ...... what?

I do not believe "most oppose it", and the national polls reflect that.

Here is a poll from Pew Research, a major and reputable national polling organization, which concludes that a big majority of 59% of Americans approve of the Arizona law, and only 32% disapprove.

Broad Approval For New Arizona Immigration Law

If you're going to punish those who hire undocumented workers, how about ending the practice of US based companies hiring whole call centers full of foreign nationals? Or from opening manufacturing centers? If GE wants to make its washers and dryers in Mexico, then slap an import tax on their products.

How about stopping the flow of guns to Mexico?

How about doing something about the laws that allow the Cubans who arrive by boat to stay and the Haitians to go back home?

How about the thousands of Chinese nationals who pay huge amounts of money to be smuggled into the the US and work the restaurant circuit for years to pay back the smugglers?

How about doing something about white slavery...the import of sex workers from around the world to work in the US?

How about increasing the demands on students/education in the US so that qualified workers can be found here and the need for H1B visas goes away?

It all depends on how it plays out in the street. You get another Rodney King type
episode and the currently positive polls will reverse overnight. You get a Juarez type
series of assassinations in Tucson and the positive numbers will become overwhelming.

The Arizona law addresses ALL of that except the Cubans and GE.

OOPS!! Overlooked the gun thing...
