I do not believe "most oppose it", and the national polls reflect that.
Here is a poll from Pew Research, a major and reputable national polling organization, which concludes that a big majority of 59% of Americans approve of the Arizona law, and only 32% disapprove.
My apologies for crappy handwriting. I meant that most are for it, regardless of political affiliation. For instance, my mother in law is a die in the wool Democrat, and she is for the legislation. I think people are just becoming fed up with law breakers in this country, and truthfully, that threshold lowers every time we are in a recession.

I'd be very interested in the results if a second question was added to the poll..something like "Do you believe crime has increased in recent years along with illegal immigration?"
My guess is that you'd have a resounding YES..very near that same 59% majority who favor the AZ law.
Of course, those people would be wrong...the opposite is true, but AZ law proponents either don't know or don't care that crime in AZ has gone DOWN during the purported illegal immigration crisis of the last few years.
This is right up there with "keep your big socialist government hands off my Medicare" protest signs. Not much of a connection with reality.
Most Hispanics condemn Arizona's strict new law targeting undocumented immigrants, while only 20 percent of non-Hispanics oppose it.
...much of the poll - which questioned 901 Hispanic adults and was compared to a separate survey of the general population - reads as if soundings were taken of two distinct worlds, an impression fortified by follow-up interviews.
Sooooo.... I'm assuming 5 out of 4 people in New Mexico support illegal immigration reform....
But then again, Albuquerque wants to boycott the state, As if we already didnt look bad enough.
How do we "look bad enough"?
5 out of 4 people....not a math major, huh?
There's a lot of debate right now between the city council and various state and local politicians over whether or not ABQ/NM should boycott AZ. It's an election year and immigration is a hot issue. They all just want to come out on the right side of it when the dust clears.
ABQ/NM has the potential to gain a lot of convention/tour business from this, I think we'll come out ahead regardless of whether or not the state/city boycotts AZ.
Here's just one example of why AZ now has this law....On the news they interviewed a couple who have been here for 15 years, illegally and admit to it. They have 10 kids. Neither work so WHO is supporting them? They lived in a place run by a 'slumlord' who is now totally pissed because he lost 8 families! We are taking away his income. Waaaah. Were those other 7 families employed? Who knows. Also these illegals didn't speak English and needed a translator to speak with reporters. After 15 years here??? They were counting on their 'sob story' to get people to let them stay I guess but they aren't. They are moving to Colorado! At least NM didn't get them...this time.
Well really.....what news show on what channel, please? Can't remember? Oh what a surprise.....lol
Did the huge illegal family drive away in their new taxpayer-furnished Cadillac?
This is an old story.....and not the last time we'll hear it, Im afraid.
But I think it's BS. Though I'll check back for the facts on where and when this "news item" appeared.

it really dosent matter if crime has gone up or down due to illegal immigration, the point is, they are here illegally, and something has to be done.

Albuquerque would look foolish, We already have one of the worst crime rates for a city our size. Albuquerque just lacks.
Its sad, I'm glad we are under republican rule, this week they saved us from some crazy crap..... 5 to 4 in the council, party line votes.
