My business partner and I are planning to head to NOLA in mid October for a business trip. The conventions for the trip are being held in a hotel in the quarter. We don't want to stay at the hotel, but somewhere near it. I'm open to staying outside of the quarter if it's not too far away, but am confused as to where all of these areas are- like those I find on craigslist. The Treme, Marigny, St. Charles area, etc. Would these areas be quite a trek from the quarter? We were looking to be on foot most of the time, not having to take a traincar or taxi everywhere. Thanks!

Treme can be pretty rough, and I'm not sure if there are any accomodations there that would meet your standards. I would look in the Marigny as it is right next door to the French Quarter and you will generally be pretty safe walking back and forth.

Depends on which hotel you need to get to. If it is one on Canal st. or near it, walking from the Marigny would be a trek.

look at hotels in the CBD/downtown area and in the quarter and you'll be within walking distance. you could even go on google maps, type "new orleans hotels" and zoom in to see what hotels are close. there are a bunch of them in that area.

That would be quite a walk. Look around that locale for something cheaper if that is what you want.
