I am curious as to whether having visible tattoos (not offensive on forearms) would hurt my chances of getting a respectable professional job in New Orleans the way they do in many other places. In my mind, I see N.O. as the sort of place in which one could readily expect to not be discriminated upon for such superficial reasons. I am, however a realist and as such know that my hopes could simply be wishful thinking. I'd love to hear any stories you guys may have telling both sides...those who have been turned down for jobs because they chose to express themselves with tats as well as those who have gotten the job with them. Thanks in advance for the stories guys! Can't wait to hear what you guys have to share!!!

Nothing in particular has happened to myself, however I have a tattooed wedding ring, and while submitting resume's,I did run across an ad. It was an ad for a black tie catering company that specifically said no visible tattoos or piercings, which I did not go ahead and submit my resume' for that reason. Since, I have been wondering how they would have regarded my wedding band.. it is the same symbolization just not silver or gold. Guess I will try next time now though maybe I will have a story for you.

I have a visible tattoo on my lower arm and I have never had an issue finding employment anywhere. Unless specifically stated in an ad, I doubt it matters. But just in case, you probably want to wear a long sleeve shirt to the interview.

It probably depends on the type of job, just as in any other city. If it's white collar, just wear a dress shirt as usual to cover it up and I'm assuming you wouldn't have a problem?
