Is there cheaper parking elsewhere? I'm noticing the hotels charge upwards of $40 a day to park on top of your room rate and taxes! Good grief! We are driving as we're making a road trip out of it, but likely won't use the car while we are in NOLA much. Is there a parking garage that's cheaper or something? Going in August if that helps.

There is a open parking lot somewhere around Poydrus and O'Keefe that has more reasonable parking, but you would have to hoof it to your hotel. We park there sometimes and have friends pick us up.

Bestparking.com is a good place to start. Some of the lots have parking available only in 24 hour periods so you have to refeed the machine once a day (I think). If you search for the entire week, these places won't show prices so search for one day. There are phones numbers and a map to show location.

If you want your car downtown, you're going to have to pay. You will find cheaper overnight rates further away from Canal St. and the French Quarter.

If you're only staying a few days, you can also just park Uptown or in Mid-City for free and take transit to the hotel.

There is a garage across from the Roosevelt Hotel on University that charges $15 /night. This is the cheapest i have found in the area by far...

I stayed at the Omni Royal on Gravier, just two blocks or so from Canal. I parked at a garage on Canal and Rampart that was 17$ overnight.

If you plan to gamble at all, you can park at Harrah's for free. You just have to get a rewards card and play for a minimum of thirty minutes each day your car is in the garage. I have never done this personally but know of people that do all the time. I am not an avid gambler but I do pop into Harrah's if we are walking around the quarter or Canal during the summer...I never say no to chilly A/C and clean bathrooms

There is also a garage on Rampart between Iberville and Bienville that I have used a few times that is $18 a night.
