I'm going to be making a trip from New Orleans to Gulf Shores. Googlemaps tells me to take Interstate 10, but looking at the map it seems like taking US 90 along the coast would be a better, more scenic drive.

Does anyone have any advice on how much longer it takes to go along the coast (google tells me the difference is about 45 minutes) and whether it is worth the extra time?

Thanks.

Not sure how that would be "better". If you mean driving along the beach in Waveland/Gulfport and Biloxi, then yes that's out of the way and will take longer. 45 extra minutes sounds about right. If you want to see the scenery, then that's one thing. It's no shortcut.

You have to drive through Mobile anyway, so you're just adding time and distance.

Sorry, I wasn't too clear, maybe I will edit my OP. By "better" I meant a more scenic drive. I'm going to have some people with me that haven't seen much of that region of the country and we will be travelling in the day. I was just wondering if the beach, houses, etc look nice along US 90 and if that is worth taking some extra time.

Its REALLY slow. 90 along the coast is pretty but VERY VERY slow.

It is a nice drive. You could take the scenic route going over and if you find it boring or slow take the interstate back. I personally like to drive the scenic route at least through Ocean Springs.
