I know about Craigslist but I want other sources as well. I'm trying to get in the oil field line of work and not sure where to start. Someone told me it's either in Houma or Lake Charles but there has to be some in New Orleans as well. I found a few rentals on Craigslist but sleaze is written all over it.

thanks for this. you're in WV though? So what you're saying is simply search the name of the oil drilling company and inquire directly with them? So with that recent oil rig explosion in New Orleans involving Black Elk Energy, does that mean I should go to their website and inquire with them?

I reside in WV but bounce around between several different places, Louisiana being one of them. I work for an oilfield services company.
Every company should have a careers section on their website. I would recommend googling the company you are interested in, for instance Black Elk, and go to their job page -

Ok thanks this really helps. Now is there a source where I can find ALL the oil drilling companies so I can contact all of them? I only knew of Black Elk due to the explosion that happened recently. There's probably a couple hundred oil drilling companies out there as well.

I'm familiar with rigzone. by the way, is the yellow pages (online) still reliable for finding apartments for rent? I think it used to be.

I was looking at Trulia and there are several neighborhoods in NOLA. Which one is supposed to be the safest? I would guess the French Quarter? The worst would have to be the lower 9th ward? A few houses for sale in Little Woods at my price range but I'm unsure why these houses are under $30K? I like this price range but from experience with the cities I've lived in the past, home prices determine if the area is good or bad, but this is not always true outside of the city.

The French Quarter isn't the safest neighborhood, it's full of victims of opportunity and alot of petty crimes happen there. Usual for tourist areas.
