New Orleans is a growing city with a lot of potential and will need places for all of these people that will move in. The current tallest building (Whitney Hancock Center) was built exactly 50 years ago I believe that the city needs more skyscrapers. In the past the city was supposed to have two or three but never happened because of bad timing, also because it's population was decreasing. These is room left in the CBD but who knows when the land will still be available. I have four ideas of myself that will dramatically change the skyline, the shortest being 850 and the tallest being over 1,000 feet.

And why would it need it, again? Skyscrapers are built in the cities where land is scarce. They are greatly more expensive that midrise buildings of equivalent areas. Also, they require a firm soil to support the concentrated weight, not something N.O. has. As far as I recall, N.O. is not in a land crush. That's why there are no skyscrapers.

This is is a prime example of why New Orleans is behind in everything. Close-minded folks.

Building skyscrapers on stilts is probably pretty difficult.

Mid rise residential buildings are much more common and less expensive to build than skyscraper residential. New Orleans probably has 20 skyscrapers that are all office or hotels.

Has anyone here spent a hurricane in the 15th floor of a residential high rise?

And where is there land in New Orleans? If New Orleans isn't tight on available, adequate land, then I have an oceanfront property on Mars to sell you.

Yes, NOLA needs more skyscrapers and hi-rise condos in the Algiers, Downtown, East New Orleans, Lakefront, and 9th ward area. A city is judged by its current new skyscrapers as a sign of the growing economies in that area. Redo the streets in New Orleans. Diverse away from just tourism. New Orleans, after all is one of the greatest cities in America and it is a shame that the city and the state with some of the best resources in America stays poor. Clain your crown back and bring back the corporations and companies that have left to other cities. African American, Italians and Hispanics are the three dominant cultures inthe city. Hire General Honore for police chief!!

Perhaps downtown New Orleans could adopt the "Vancouver" style or become "Brickell on the Bayou."
