Lol love the last post. I wouldn't worry about your car too much... Of course by saying that mine will probably be stolen tonight, I could only hope... Anyway I think there are a handfull of areas you won't want to live inat all but mostly your common sense should get you by safely. I think shotguns were more economical to build in the past. To rent I'm not sure I think its best to just get some roommates.

In the 19th century (and earlier in Europe), many taxing districts taxed on front footage along the street. So, houses were narrow but long. Thus the shotgun, where literally you could shoot a gun from the front door and the bullet would go out the back door. I don't know why anyone would recommend them as economical except they are older and sometimes not in good repair. OTOH, many people have adorable shotguns with all new everything and they are quite expensive.

It's funny, "shotgun" because I presume a shotgun is the one sort of gun whose emission would not, in fact, exit the back door cleanly if fired from the front.

Sorry, just being a "nerd" I guess.

LOL! I was falling asleep last night when I typed my replies and forgot another of the things I like about New Orleans: I could just hire a voodoo priestess to put a chicken head in bed with the guy who stole my car....or am I getting this confused with The Godfather?

Thanks for your help, Nico82NO.

Thanks, SouthernBelleInUtah. Yes, though it's been a long time since I researched this, I seem to remember reading that one of the reasons for many shotgun houses being regarded as economical is the fact that they are, as you say, older and sometimes not in good repair.

LOL! Yes Stephen, from one, (part-time), nerd to another, when I began my research on New Orleans and its unique parlance(s), I was struck by this seemingly incongruous, though colorful designation. However, after careful consideration, I now see the wisdom and subtle genius that belies this apparent misnomer. That is to say, a landlord dealing with a difficult tenant could effectively evict the tenant and scour the floor, ceiling and walls with one shot. No need to dig buckshot out of those surfaces, just cover it with spackle and paint. It's efficient and would avoid that water damage and expense involved in using a fire hose.

To Everyone,

Is it my imagination or are we having fun on this thread? Now see, that's one of the things I like about New Orleans. The people are smart enough to know that when you're 80 and dying, it won't matter if you cranked out one more widget at the factory. What does matter is, Did you enjoy your life? Folks here may not live in the lap of luxury but they know how to have a good time....or a reasonable facsimile thereof, (that last part was for you, Stephen).

Now will somebody please come forward and tell me something good about the city that I love!?!
