Yes the log#s matter but it's like to what extent. Same with the preferences. Merely having a lower log# doesn't cut it. I saw someone on here with a log# of 9 (or lower) and she was wait listed. So we're going to wait list log #1 too at this rate
Log # 1 can easily be waitlisted if no preference and they only qualify for a few apartments.
Log numbers are only meaningful AFTER the random selection of those log numbers pulling about about 10-20x the # of available apartments. AFTER those people are pulled then your log # is better if it is lower, but if you're in a high population income band for a very low amount of apartments, yeah it's easy to see how a log # in the low hundreds could get you nothing. I think we're all basically saying the same thing in different ways. It's so stressful, but at least we have it figured out for the most part at this point. Perhaps a bit of transparency half a year ago would have been nice though :/ If you apply to many lotteries and then see your log number appear it's not worth getting too excited over if it's really low cuz there's a chance that your specific low log # will NOT be randomly pulled out of a pool of like 90,000 plus applicants. I would have saved myself so much grief and excessive rumination had I realized this early on.
I too, got waiting listed after my (I guess) successful appeal. I'm sad, but honestly it's a relief to be done with it. NYC needs more affordable housing! We're living proof!
I too, got a wait list email. Sad thing is, the email states a preference group and I didn't fall into any preference group for this project. I'm calling them right now!this is ridiculous!
Hello, everyone, I just got a great bad news from 535 carlton lottery, here is the letter
Dear Applicant:
Thank you for your application for the above captioned project. Due to the fact that we received an extremely large number of applications, we will not be able to accommodate all those who have applied. You were contacted for further processing due to your log number and preference status (disability/community board/municipal employee). However, there are currently more eligible applicants ahead of you than the number of units available. Therefore we are not able to process your application further at this time.
Your application and all documents submitted will be held on file in our office. Should we reach your log number later in the lease-up process we will contact you, however please note that given the high volume of applications we received this is unlikely to happen.
We may contact you in the future to confirm your continued interest in remaining on this waiting list and to update your application information.
If you wish to be removed from the waiting list, please contact us in writing. Please reference the above Log # when contacting this office. Naturally, if there is any change in your address, you must notify the rental office immediately by contacting us at (718) 246-8080 x224.
This is so sad. I too received an email that I had been waitlisted. Just Sucks. Well- good luck to you all moving forward! Well wishes!
