Does NYCHA give single people a studio or a 1 bedroom?

Thoughts?

Yes they do have studios in the pj's and if you are a single person, they will certify you for a studio sized apartment. I've been certified since September of last year for an apartment for myself and my son and the certified us to a 1 bedroom as a family of 2. once he's over 6 though, we'd be eligible for a 2 bedroom

Studios or one-bedrooms, depending on availability. (Same for 80/20's or Mitchell-Lama.)

How can one just assume that single people never fall onto hard times or need assistance?

Yes, there SHOULD not be a reason why a single person cannot get a "regular" apartment but there ARE reasons: like $3,000 apartments, like job layoffs, like skinflint employers.

I was young and single at a point and lost a job, i was still able to live in my apartment at the time, and have unemployment, then got another job.
i didnt have to go to ny housing to get me a cheaper apt......
