We got called that there is a co-op available at the Mitchell-Lama project Crown Gardens in Crown Heights. The address is 1185 Carroll Street. Does anyone have any information about this co-op complex or the neighborhood? Is this area of Crown Heights Jewish? We are Jewish and that would be a bonus for us. We did drive by two years ago but I don't remember much about the exact location or the condition of the building. If you have information about the building and units that would be really helpful. Thank you.

I don't think Crown Gardens has a significant Jewish population. It does seem to be a decent complex though, and the neighborhood is not bad. Nostrand itself caters more towards the Caribbean community (although the hipster Orthodox optician I use is on Nostrand near Eastern Parkway). While there are Jewish residents between Nostrand and NY Aves., there's not a big concentration until you get west of NY Ave., and more towards Brooklyn Ave. Kingston Ave., three long blocks west of Crown Gardens, is the main shopping drag for the Orthodox community there.
