Has anyone won a lottery apartment and shortly thereafter received notice for a lottery you’ve been obsessed with? I recently won the lottery for an apartment, but I have a relatively low login number with cb preference for a building I've had my heart set on. If so, were you able to get out of your lease? What was your final decision and how did you come about making the decision? Did the management office make it extremely difficult to get out of your lease? Any advice or guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Have you already signed the lease? If no, you really shouldn't have a problem. There'll be someone coming along right behind you.

If you have...putting aside bird hand/bush advice, it could be months and months before you were to receive an offer even if you did. Your lease should include provisions re: breaking it. I bet individual management companies vary on how obnoxious they are about it.

Stupid question if I may. Is there a website or publication where you find out about these lotteries. I have my own place and have for 18 years, but I have family looking to move from their homes, and would like to help them find information.

Go to NYC Connect
and all the affordable housing listings are on there for the NY boroughs. Good luck!

I agree with @randomperson2 it could be months before anything is set for the new building but definitely take a look at your lease. I read on a different thread here that someone just paid 2 rents until the old building found a new tenant.
Good luck!!! Hope everything works out.
