Hi everyone,

I've been silently following the message board for a while, hoping the lottery would open up again. Now that it has I applied through the Mitchell-Lama Connect site. Does anyone know how the lottery is drawn when there is a mix of digital and paper submissions? I read on here that with paper only submissions, they simply took the first few hundred postcards and discarded the rest. How would this work if there are a mix of digital and physical submissions?

Also, does anyone know if you would be notified via email or on the website, or if you still are looking for a letter in the mail?

Has anyone been selected for the new waiting list yet?

-Briton

I only signed a form that allowed them to run a background check on my housing history. I submitted some documents the following day and haven't heard back from them.

What exactly did you sign ? If I may ask.

So the documents I signed are called TIC (Tenant Income Certification)
I had my averaged income and a unit assigned to it ( she didn't tell me the unit number or building number)

You come to sign those documents so that they will get sent off to the city for approval for an apartment

it gives them permission to look over your income, bank statements, tax returns and all other stuff.

You won't sign these documents until they've received all required documents and ran your credit/background check.

Mitchell-Lamas seem to take upwards of a month to post numbers. Technically Penn South is not a Mitchell-Lama but I wouldn't be surprised if it took that long or longer.

They have to enter the paper postcards into the computer and then run the lottery.

The 2014 lottery ended around the 1st week of August that year, and I seem to recall that I got my letter around the middle of September. The 2014 lottery was all postcards. The first letter you get is to notify you that you've been selected and to tell you how to submit the required information, along with a passport-sized photograph and a check for $50.00.

The next letter you get is a waitlist number. This number can be accessed online and the list is updated periodically. However, the letter that will give you an actual idea as to how soon you will be getting an apartment is the one that tells you to come in and look at X number of apartments. They list the apartments and what your number is. For example, the letter may say that there are 7 studios or 1 bedrooms or 2 bedrooms ( depends on your apt. size) available and you are 10th in line for those apartments.

One thing to keep in mind is that the people with low numbers in the 2014 lottery were being called that same year, so it also depends on what your original waitlist number is.

Good luck!

Yes, thank you. I am still waiting to hear from compliance. I have municipal preference. Log # 1XX
I submitted documents almost a month ago and was told that compliance was still reviewing my file. The next step should be for me to sign off on my documents to go to HPD, but I do not have a time frame. I asked them and they could not give me a time frame. So basically I am still waiting. I have learned a lot about the process from reading posts here, so I really appreciate having this as a form of a support system.

So far my timeline is:
Jan got email to come in for interview because my application was randomly selected
Interviewed Jan 15 2019
Feb was asked for more documents, caseworker was very rude but I complied, submitted documents
March asked for more documents, caseworker was even more rude and discouraging, but I submitted documents
April submitted more documents and waited and waited...
end of May was contacted by compliance thank God it was a different specialist who was more friendly. I was asked to submit more documents with a deadline of early June
Submitted those documents in early June
contacted a week later from compliance telling me what size apartment I am qualified for
Then they said wait to hear from a supervisor from compliance and I'm still waiting.

So I'm staying positive and prayerful and preparing myself financially.
It's challenging because I still have to pay rent where I am and have no clue as to when and if I'll be approved. When I'm approved I have to have money to move. So it is a bit stressful not having a time frame to work with.

Golden rule is, don't get happy until you have signed your lease and have your keys in your hand!!!

I'll keep you posted.

Everyone who has applied and still being considered, hang in there. It's a process. But I'm sure we'll be so grateful when we have those keys in our hands to our new apartments Stay Blessed!!!!

Understood. I didn't sign this neither have been asked to come in to sign these. I'm going to have to follow up with my case manager, now I'm worried.

thank you!

yes I suggest that you do so they should've either emailed you or call you about that information and not leave you in the dark

they have also changed the income bracket as well to give people more wiggle room to be assigned/approved
