Im new in this site but I feel lost and out of options. I have been faithfully renewing every 2 years my nycha application. I’m going into 10 years with 2 boys I work and go to school and I am also DV . I have yet heard nothing from nycha. I’m still stuck in the very beginning. I have the lowest priority . I just don’t understand really. I have seen cases of people getting it in less time , even people not in shelters getting it in less time. Any suggestions? Your experiences? I’m about to head to every office and fight and demand some answers...
This is so frustrating. Both of my kids are special needs and with health issues...
Nyc is hard and very bias at times not to mention the scams that go into play.
However, don't wait on NYCHA. You and your children don't want to live there; it's not what it used to be. Buildings are crumbling, riff raff are let in, etc.
Why don't you perhaps look at some Mitchell Lama lotteries? Right now there is an opening for a studio, one, or two bedroom in the East Village and for a 2 bedroom in Arverne. You have to apply through a lottery but it is worth it if you get called and if your number is low it will be WAY quicker than 9 years. Mitchell Lamas are generally populated with a higher caliber of people who take pride in where they live. Rents/carrying charges are just as cheap, if not cheaper, than NYCHA. Additionally, there are always some Mitchell Lamas with perpetually open waiting lists where all you need to do is send a letter to get an application. Good luck.

She might try 80/20s and other affordable housing lotteries listed on nyc.gov 80/20s have a lot of well off people (the 80) so they tend not to tolerate garbage behaviors. There are other combinations like 70/20s, 50/50s and so on.
Thank you! I have applied for the lotteries you mentioned as well and still no luck..I’m a teacher make a decent income but nobody hasn’t reached out. It’s ridiculous really. I will look into 80/20 I never heard so it before.
You're welcome! I wish the best for you. You are the type of person NYCHA needs but until NYCHA gets its act together you should go elsewhere.
