Can you bring your own appliances?
Let’s say you get white appliances and I own ss can I switch? Has anyone heard about this?

If you’re talking about a lottery apartment, probably not. You would need the landlord’s permission. Generally, landlords want all the appliances to be the same so that they can be serviced more easily.

Contact the LL first if you want to bring your own appliances. The key here is to find out what they allow as some places do not allow gas ranges and are electric only and others do not allow electric and are gas only.


YMMV, but I know people who have done this in a normal rental. When they brought their own appliances the LL give $XXX off first months rent since they didn't have to put in appliances or maintain them.

Take note that if the LL do allow you do bring your own appliances then the LL wont be required to service them when they break so you are on your own for the life of the appliances. In Affordable housing the LL may not give you $XXX off first months rent but it never hurts to ask.

TLDR: Ask the LL if you can bring your own appliances, what type of range (gas/eletric) is allowed, and ask if you can get an incentive for doing so.
