So I can put my child on the lottery application? Will they request a school letter? He lives in another state from where I lived.

I don't see anything in the marketing handbook saying that Immediate Family Members have to be living together at the time of application. Without the birth certificate, you will probably have to jump through some extra hoops to prove that he's actually your kid. And you will have to affirm that he will be part of your household going forward. If I understand your situation correctly, he does live with you, just part-time (shared custody).

Why can’t you move forward with your application as a single person and refuse a studio if that’s the only thing offered to you? A one bedroom if set up smartly can accommodate a child staying over occasionally.

Are you trying to get a two bedroom?

A one-bed can work with a baby, but isn't long-term sustainable with a kid. When puberty rolls around, they have to have their own space.
