Which building? I think some places are just labelled "luxury" but not really.

There is a pretty nice building in Murray Hill that was charging steep rent but didn't maintain the building, including the elevators. Sadly a young man who lived there was killed in 2019. So I guess it does happen that buildings cut corners, and the results could be tragic.

If the owner was smart he would pay to maintain the building, and now he's going to have to shell out money for a wrongful death lawsuit. And of course no amount of money can make up for a life cut short.

That is why I recommend checking out an address on the Department of Buildings website before renting or buying an apartment. That way you can see what complaints have been documented and avoid a bad situation.

Just type in the borough and address:

Very sad story:

That is so sad and horrific...I'm officially afraid of the elevators.

Yep, the building I was living in previously before my present building is like this, and it has gotten a lot worse since I moved, apparently, including a night club disguised as a wellness center opening on the first floor. I laughed hard yesterday when Housing Connect sent me a re-rental offer for an apartment there.

31-33 Lincoln Road and 510 Flatbush Ave (same complex, but for HC purposes two diff buildings, but they're not really - they are connected, share same facilities and can enter at both addresses).
