Hi I applied to a few apartments in the housing lottery, but since they’ve closed I started to reassess what my ideal apartment would look like (neighborhood, elevator, amenities, etc).

Some of the ones I applied to no longer fit what I’m looking for. One of them reached out to me for documents and I wound up withdrawing my application bc I know the neighborhood and it’s a bit dangerous.

Is it a bad thing to withdraw my application? Does it make them less likely to contact me in the future?

There is no any negative impact at all. Before I won the unit where I am now, I withdrew &/or didn't follow through many lotteries that I got contacted to submit documents & it didn't affect my winning for the building that I wanted to live in.

In the future, though, maybe be more discerning and don't apply to a building until you've determined you really want to live there. It just cuts down on paperwork for everyone.

Yes, and for lotteries where there is a cap on how many applications they draw a person should not enter carelessly because for every application drawn there are many that miss the opportunity by not being drawn.
