Hi everyone! first and foremost I want to say that I am happy to have found this community because whew do I need all the knowledge I can get from everyone's expertise and experiences!

I have a question as a "newbie" to be "picked" to proceed with an application.. I don't know if it is my spidey senses or just me being skeptical or naive about it all but is possible to get picked for an apartment months after ppl have moved into it? If all goes well and I am assigned an apartment would it be a new unit or a unit that someone left from?

My mind immediately started thinking maybe someone left, maybe there were some units still available months after people were moving in, or I don't even know what it could be why I am picked now to what seems to be "out of the blue".

I got picked for the Coney Island Phase 1 and from my thorough research and searches, I noticed that that lot was already finished on December '21.

I am truly not so knowledgeable on this and wanted to hear opinions on what this may mean..

Is this for a mini lottery? If so then yes someone moved out. If no then it could be that the building has units available and/or someone moved out. Not that it’s important but you can ask them directly, I’m sure they’ll tell you.

thank you for your response and advice. that makes so much more sense. I don’t think it was a mini lottery as I applied back in 2021 and I read through the forums that people have already moved in so I was a bit confused and truly didn’t think I was going to be “picked”. I know it isn’t as important but I was curious to know the “why”.

Are there extra steps to enter a mini lottery or does the company just put you in one and will contact you if your number is drawn?
