I saw the unit on June 7,2022 and had the interview to give in documents, on June 10, 2022. I gave in most of the documents needed and had to get more paperwork. I went back to the office and gave in the paperwork, on June 12, 2022.
I didn't hear anything for about two weeks, so I emailed my leasing agent.
I was then asked for 6 more paystubs. I was told that my file was then sent to the city for approval. Then on July 13, 2022, I was asked for more documents and had to explain some bank deposits and get it notarized. I gave those in on July 18, 2022 and my file is now complete. My leasing agent said she will be sending it again to the city. The document and review process took about a month and a week for me. Now I have to wait for the city to view it and hopefully, they won't ask me for any more paperwork. I'm praying for an approval.
I'll update if and when I get approved and get to sign a lease. I'm wishing you lots of luck!
Almost everyone has to explain bank deposits. They need to ensure you don't have undisclosed sources of income. Most people also have to explain any payment app (venmo etc) transactions.
I’ve been applying for 6 years on housingconnect and nycha. Nycha called me finally in march 2021 and certified me, so I’ve been certified for 1 br for 2 years this month. I ended up going to shelter in may 2022 and housingconnect called me for 1br around november 2022. I submitted my documents and they denied me, because I was in shelter in Brooklyn and they only take in manhattan borough residents, which was not my fault when I applied I’ve been 7 years manhattan resident. Finally this year in February housingconnect again contacted me for 2br in manhattan. I applied for the building back in 2022 June. Process was fast and housing specialist was very knowledgeable and nice lady, she helped me alot to submit all my documents. I sent documents in February, got offer in march and accepted it, in about 2 weeks I signed lease and finally moved in. It’s a brand new building, lot of space and I’m very happy. Finally after 7 years of applying, shelter and stress with 2 years certified with nycha on waitinglist!!! It’s a very long and stressful process guys, and really a lottery and luck matter
And honestly I don’t think if you r regular person working you are going to be called or offered help. Only way to get voucher or housing connect joint is through shelter. Other than that it’s extra stressful process and nothing moves. System is broken, people who r really desperate and in need for housing have to go through circles of hell and mental health issues before they r contacted and offered some kind of help. Good luck ya”all
It also depends on how big the building is. They likely have more apartments and need to pick through more applications, more folks not responding right away, etc etc.
After 6 document shipments by email, 20 days have passed and I have not heard from the specialist agent again. this is normal?
There isn't really a "normal" in this process, things can vary so much. That said, 20 days definitely long enough to be worth contacting the agency and asking for a status update.

Even though they requested documents does not mean they are processing them right away, one lottery I was requested for documents and was told that they do it in batches of 100 people so someone before might get the unit available and they never contacted me again.
i was initially contacted in late june of 2020 and after many emails back and forth sending documents, i signed my lease in mid november of 2020 and moved in dec. 15th. good luck!
