Hi all!

I can’t find this information anywhere online so wondering if anyone here knows the answer. Once you move in to a lottery unit, are you still allowed to apply to other buildings? Might already living in an affordable unit hinder the chances of getting another one in the future?

Highly appreciate any information on this, or if anyone had experience moving from one affordable housing situation to another. Thanks so much!

You are allowed to apply, but you will have to give up the old lottery unit after lease signing. So you would either have to break the lease or if the building allowed, you could find someone to replace you.

Previously "winning" or already living in a lottery unit has no impact on other current or any future lottery applications. People absolutely lottery hop as their income, job location, family size etc. changes. Any lotto unit has to be your primary residence so you will just have to vacate your current apartment if you want to accept another lottery unit.

A co worker won a lottto while she was in one. There was a 2 month overlap. She had some stay at the unit the end of the lease and continued the new. This was 4 years ago though.

Plenty of people here have moved from one lottery apartment to another.
Most likely, you will still be responsible to pay for the remainder of your lease. There are no major differences between "lottery apartments" and market rates when it comes to lease signing. It all depends on your landlord.
