Hi. I’d like to hear different opinions. If you were to get accepted for a new, nice, luxury apartment and the AMI is 130% - meaning the rent is $2000 and up monthly. What types of amenities do you expect or would like to have?
I see that some properties have amazing amenities like a gym, laundry room, rooftop terrace, business center, etc.
Then there are properties that don’t have much of anything.. maybe bike storage and a laundry room if you’re lucky.
Personally, I’d prefer to live in a building with beneficial amenities, especially if I’m paying that amount of money. I wouldn’t want to settle. But how important are the amenities to you?
Honestly, amenities are nice. But in my building, the amenities are almost always empty. People think they will use them more than they actually do. You’d think that people paying $4000-5000 a month (market rate) would take advantage of the amenities but they don’t. I think I would like laundry in building, bike storage and maybe a nice area for remote working. But other than that, not necessary for me. As for paying $2000+ and whether it’s worth it or not, go on Streeteasy and see what $2000+ gets you for market rate to see whether it’s a good deal or not.
Top amenities for me are some sort of private (to the building) outdoor space, like a rooftop or other deck, and in-unit washer/dryer. Wish list is a pool (currently have), mega wish list is both an indoor and outdoor pool.

The only amenities I care about is in unit washer/Dryer, gym and 24hr concierge (sense of security). Cold storage would be great (my old building had it) not the one I'm in now - that said, I like the idea of a roof top terrace, lounge etc. I don't use them but like to know that they are there.
I prefer amenities, I use the gym a lot, having a doorman makes me feel safe, I also love my in-unit washer and dryer and I wish mine had some sort of outdoor private terrace with grills. I like to grill and used it quite a bit in my old building. I miss that and the sunset view of Manhattan. A big bonus is extra stuff like a pool or rooms for hosting but if they have a bunch of strict rules it honestly makes them useless.
I like everything that my building has to offer though the amenities that I enjoy the most are their jacuzzi, steam room, & sauna of which I use it regularly. I don't need to spend hundreds of dollars to go to spa anymore so for that alone, my amenities fee is worth it! That being said, I kinda spoiled now, whenever I see a luxurious building is up on the Housing Connect, if it doesn't have these three, I def crossed it off my list.
