Yes, i viewed the unit and was approved by HPD but i was told that i would need a project-based voucher, so my application was sent in for project-based voucher and a rep from HPD told me i was placed on a waiting list.

i have been embarrassed having a sec 8 voucher and been denied for 2 lottery units ... i am being told voucher doesn't cover the rent.... and they won't allow me to pay difference for some reason.... alot of the rents are usually 20$ - 50$ over what sec8/citypheps will pay and i think they do it on purpose to deny voucher holders!!!! with rents getting higher i feel hopeless.

Unfortunately side deals are illegal & You can lose your subsidy & management will be fined. Tou can only apply to what your voucher will cover, nothing over.

They don't allow "side deals" because then landlords would extract even more money from people when the vouchers are supposed to cover "market rate."

You shouldn't be embarrassed about needing a voucher, though. Or, I should say, there are a handful of reasons one could be embarrassed, but most people with vouchers are working just as hard as they can to make a life for themselves. It's not their fault rent in this city is insane.

Are fheps still issued at former pace in 2024? Any limits? Any budgetary gloom?
