What’s the process when renewing lease?
I renewed my lease but I wasn’t asked to provide any documents, is that normal?

This is normal. The process for renewal is your landlord/management company will sent you a renewal lease several months before your current lease expires and you decide to sign a 1 or 2 yr renewal at the stated rent amount or notify them that you will not be renewing. Most lotto buildings don't have any recertification requirement. If your building does require recertification, it will be annually, regardless of your lease term, and won't be attached to the renewal timeline.

you only need to submit documents to get it... after that the apt is yours till you do not want it. And all you need to do is sign the lease.

This isn't always true. Some buildings do require recertification of your income annually, which does require the submission of documents. It depends on which tax program the building received. Recertification is not the same as re-qualifying though. Changes in income will not change your rent or prevent you from renewing your lease.

What do you have to provide for recertification? just your tax returns or do you have to go through all your docs again, pay stubs, bank statements etc?

Several years ago I lived in a lotto building where I had to recertify, I can't quite remember but I believe they only needed must recent year taxes and several recent paystubs or an employment verification letter with your gross salary. The will send you a recertification package, mine came in the mail with a prepaid return envelope, with a short list of what to send. It wasn't hard at all.
