As much as it sucks, your situation is far more common than that of your friends. I think I first started applying to housing lotteries maybe like 15yrs ago, and have only been contacted a handful of times, the percentage is terrible. And it wasn't as popular as it is now. Your chances are *heightened* when you apply to buildings within your community board, that have CB preference (as not all buildings do). But even that isn't like a sure thing. And if you're someone who doesn't find your community board desirable and you're trying to leave, it now you're going up against other people who have preference over you. Its really all luck of the draw
