Question… I got put on a waitlist for a building back in 2022 because there was no units remaining but recently I had a friend who had the same thing happen to them but they got in contact with the developer and now is submitting documents for the building she got waitlist for. I emailed one of the buildings I got waitlisted for and got this response back “Hello,

The waitlists was active for a year. once the year has passed, the waitlist expires. We recommend checking NY Housing Connect online for all future affordable housing opportunities.

Best,”

I’m just confused because I didn’t know those waist expires within a year ? That makes no sense… most people sign 2 year leases in these lottery’s nowadays so I just wanna know if this is true

Some buildings will only have a waitlist for a year and if they fill all the apartments they will just do a re-rental lottery once they get vacant apartments again. That being said - some buildings will still maintain waitlists beyond that point. I think it's really a building by building basis - but I do think it's odd they don't just all maintain waitlists.
