A leasing agent is requesting updated documents… they stay they want a notarized employment and end of employment letter within 5 days…. Who am I to rush my employer or previous employer to give me notarized documents in that short period of time. Has anyone experienced this? Did you have to have the documents notarized? Was you employer able to meet the deadline ?

They usually will have a notary in the office or if they could go to Chase. Most of them will have a notary there to do and it’s free if they are bank with them. Those are what we did.

would you know how much you were charged per, was it per page or per document etc.

I tried looking fiver and it was quite ridiculously priced to get even a single page between all the fees, I get it they have to make money but it was 20x what a ups store would charge

Notarizing a document is a formal swearing that it’s true (like swearing to tell the truth in court). The notary is the formal witness to your swearing of the truth, should it be contested.

For example, if you’re off-lease and a monthly tenant paying your unreachable landlord in mailed cash (terrible idea), you might write a letter explaining that situation and have it notarized to swear that it’s true. You might include other pages of ‘evidence,’ but you typically only need to pay to have that first page notarized if it references what the additional pages are for.

So, did the agent specify that your employer has to provide the notarization? Did the agent specify the employer needs to have signed it at all? If not, then you should be able to supply the docs (hiring letter, termination, etc) and/or a formal statement of that info and have it notarized yourself.

That is, have a notary witness you swearing that the information you’re providing is true (and don’t lie—it’s akin to lying ‘on the stand’). Google/Reddit has plenty of examples.

I used the website Notarize. It was maybe $25-30? Did over video chat after 11pm. I specified just the first overview page needed to notarized.
