I'll be visiting new york this upcoming weekend from friday-monday and I'm looking for a cheap hotel around 625 8th Avenue (where the greyhound bus terminal is). My budget is around 80-140 a night, not looking to spend a lot of time in the hotel but I want a half decent place. Thanks.

If you're on such a low budget you should maybe think about staying some place out of Manhattan, check out the subway lines and compare it with a map of NYC, should help you.

Commuting via subway is heaven sent, trust me.

Try looking at hotels in Long Island City, Queens. There are a bunch of new ones there and the commute to the bus terminal via subway should be quite easy.

I like to use tripadvisor to search hotel reviews.

There is a new Hampton Inn that was recently built on 40th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues, and I believe 2 or 3 other new hotels on 39th Street or 38th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue (can't remember their names). I would check them out. I would also Priceline a room as this is a decent strategy to those on a budget. But remember rates are high in the summer in NYC, especially this w/e because of the holiday. Btw, I work at 620 Eighth Avenue, the building right across from 625 Eighth Avenue.

I've been looking into Jersey City as well, how difficult is the commute from Jersey City to the terminal via subway? How long would it take?

I suggest the Vanderbilt Y on East 47th Street: YMCA of Greater New York: Manhattan NYC Hostels near Grand Central | Vanderbilt Guest Rooms .
