I love this building, my question is can we get closer to Manhattan in a full service building for the same price? I heard the area was not that great but Astoria was a good area at the same time I haven't seen any luxury buildings there for around the same price online. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I work in Manhattan and I would love to be no more than 45 min away by subway and live in a luxury building for around $1200.

You're not likely to find an apt with luxury amenities for $1200 in a Queens neighborhood closer to Manhattan. If you want luxury and don't care about the surrounding neighborhood, go with MODA in Jamaica. At least you'd have several transportation options. My other suggestion would be to check the area around Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

$1,200 luxury apartment? Isn't that an oxymoron in New York?

Moda in Jamaica, Queens offers a 500 sq ft studio for $1200 that is newly renovated, about a half hour outside of Manhattan by both LIRR and subway. 1 Bedroom is around $1800. That is about as good as it seems to get in NYC nowadays.

This is why I look back with yearning on the few years I spent in Albuquerque & Phoenix: 2 bedroom, walk in closets, central air, fitness center & pool on premises, Ikea kitchen, fully carpeted, washer, dryer, microwave . . . $600 month in a superbly maintained development with a covered parking space.

As much as I love NYC, I'm throwing away my disposable income and retirement savings if I try to hold on to a NYC lifestyle. With the money I save I can visit as often as I like.

I've never heard of any luxury buildings being under $1500 anywhere near NYC. When you say luxury I associate with that a doorman, fitness center, garage parking, pool, package handling, elevators, central air, and a laundry/dryer in each unit. I guess luxury could mean different things to different people tho :P

This is a luxury building: Doorman, elevator, laundry, fitness center, kids play room, roofdeck, adult playroom, garage for $120 a month, etc etc. lol

I am really just looking for a new place with a gym. Don't want to be as far as Jamaica, Queens. It isn't 30 min from the city it is more like an hour and 10 min. Well to get to where I work on E42nd street anyway. I just want a place maybe 15-20 min closer.

I am wondering if the luxury aspect is worth the hour commute but I also have heard that it is not the greatest area for a single woman. If i were to commute an hour to manhattan I would prefer that it would be a safe place as I usually end up going home at between 1-3am.

Yeah, you won't find anything like that for $1200 a month close to Manhattan unless you can get into one of those buildings that has to set aside a small percentage of affordable housing.

If places like that existed, do you think they'd have vacancies?

Keep in mind, too, that many management companies tag their building with the name "luxury" just so they can justify higher rents.

When I think "luxury" building, I'm thinking: doorman, nice lobby, elevators, CAC, laundry room (or washer/dryer in apt), fitness center, pool, rooftop deck, parking available, etc.
