I was told once by a front desk clerk how to get to JFK cheaply...and still have used that way for the last few months. But Sunday will be the time I fly out of LaGuardia so I'm curious. I mean...they don't have an Airtrain, do they?

LaGuardia does not have AirTrain.
There are several ways to get there depending on where you are coming from
If you are coming from manhattan, the easiest way is the New York Airport Express Bus from Port Authority. It stops right in front on 42nd Street between 8th and 9th Avenue. This is $12-15 one way depending if you buy a round trip.
You can also take the N, Q train also if its during the weekday, to Astoria Boulevard where you have to take the M60 bus into the terminals. You can use your metrocard and get the free transfer from the subway to the bus.
You can also connect to the M60 along 125th Street in Harlem, but when the bus travels over the bridge it can be prone to traffic, so the N, Q to the M60 is the best option from Midtown.
You can also do the Q33 from Roosevelt Avenue, but I find that is Longer.
