Hi
I’m moving to Brooklyn since I just got a job in Sheepshead Bay. I’m a single female in my mid twenties so I would like an area with a similar demographic and safe (I’m white if it matter). I’m not new to NY but am to living in the city. I’m trying to find a place to live being conscious that I’ll be driving to work and back to my apt. I would like to be near the subway to travel to Manhattan for fun. I’m reluctantly willing to go as high as 1250 including utilize for rent (double my current rent) but I don’t mind living with roommates there hence renting a room.
Right now I’m focusing on Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens and Clinton Hill/ Fort Greene areas. Some parts of Ditmas Park - Flatbush Area also seem nice and much more affordable but I don’t really know if the areas are safe and they seem to have less within walking distance. Would parking and/or my commuting to work be horrible from these areas? Secondly can you recommend any other neighborhoods or search engines besides Craigslist. I’m trying to avoid paying a brokers fee.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and any help you can give !
Puresistheword-I'm concerned about QOL issues living in Sheepshead Bay. From my understanding the demographic is all married or older indivuals and therrs not much of a night life.
Newyorker24- I'm going to be traveling from one school to another during the work day.
Greenpoint may be a more "happening" place & less expensive than cobble hill & Clinton Hill area. Ditmas park is nice, but doesn't seem to fit what you are looking for. Ditmas Park is also surrounded by dodgy areas of flatbush.
You got a job in Sheepshead Bay...and yet you don't list that neighborhood as one you're considering. Here's a radical suggestion: look for a place there!
And here's another radical suggestion: sell the car. Mass transit will never cost as much as the maintenance/insurance/tolls/gasoline you'll be paying for. (Find a place to live in Sheepshead Bay, and you could walk to work--you wouldn't even need to take transit except to go to Manhattan).

lol @ those Sheepshead Bay comments. How about driving to your 'nightlife'?
