pmartins,

What I'd have advised the OP to do is:

"Quit" your realtor job today...do nothing,

Then when you are laid off from $60K job at the end of the year file for Unemployment Comp. You will collect $405.
You then have 2 choices...collect whiile you look for another full time job or work that part time in real estate.
But remember, every day you do paid work in a week deducts $101.25 from your check.

That part time job will prevent your getting an approved UC claim so it must be gone BEFORE the real job disappears.

(Self employed people CANNOT claim Unemployment.)

What was the outcome? I will in the same boat this coming year, but only get a few deals a year.

Every day you earn any money at all or even WILL earn money from that days's effort, you must claim that as a day worked and it will cost you 1/4 of your UC check. Work Saturday and Sunday at the real estate job and it costs you HALF the check.

If you are going to do it, it must be sub-rosa and illegal...but you would not be the first to fail to disclose income. Heck, some miscreants are probably sitting in Congress.

My advice is to lose that self-employed job BEFORE you lose the 40 hour job and do not even mention the subject of self employment.
