Is this very close to that other mall that just open up recently in the South Bronx?

Hey you beat me to this article! This is actually on the east side of the Southern Bronx by the Bruckner and Hunts Point Ave, while the Gateway Mall development is on the west side of the Southern Bronx by Yankee stadium.

The Hunts Point Community has rezoned parts of the area for mid-box retailers to develop the area but also to prevent large box retailers from entering the area (like Ikea, Target, Home Depot, etc) because it would cause even more truck traffic. This is also tied to the BankNote building redevelopment (which has just been completed and has leased about 75% of its space).

This is a big plus for the community and further supports the repositioning of the entire Southern Bronx to the working/middle class population. The amenities, retail, housing, transportation, and services continue to pour in..and I am happy to see it!

I think you are mistaken Whitlock, this is being built along Bruckner Blvd and Hunts Point Ave, across the street from the #6 Hunts Point Ave station. The link below provides better pics and information...this development is pretty cool.

I meant there is also a new shopping centre at Bryant and 174th I think?
But might be that this centre is a more simple and low-key construction.
