We are considering moving to Brooklyn next year since living in a small 1br in Manhattan is becoming difficult. Since we have one small child and think of having another one, we want to live in an area that is zoned for a good public elementary school and the one that has a few kindergartens/preschools to choose from. I would love to live in Park Slope, Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill, but these areas have become too expensive for us. We are looking to rent a spacious 2br or 3br for under 2200-2300/mo, and even a very small 2brs in Park Slope now rent for 2500-2600.

I know that in the past few years many other areas of Brooklyn have become "hot", but I am not sure where the influx of people has translated into better elementary schools and child-friendly living.

We don't want to move to the suburbs because we have relatives and friends in Brooklyn, love living in the city, and want to have access to the subway.

Thanks!
