So I'm currently in Ohio, looking to move back into NYC after a hiatus from working. I'm interviewing for a job out in Parsippany NJ, and I am heavily biased towards living somewhere in the city.

While I was working in NYC, I had a job out in Englewood Cliffs NJ (by GW Bridge) and had the luxury of taking a shuttle from Grand Central. Now I won't have that and would have to get a car.

I just wanted to get some thoughts on commuting crosstown via Lower Manhattan (either Williamsburg, Manhattan or Brooklyn Bridges, and Holland Tunnel), as well as the parking situation in Brooklyn during the week. I'm expecting it would be relatively easy to pull off if I woke up early in the morning, but suicide on the way back no matter what time I came back.
The areas I would look in are Fort Greene/Clinton Hill/Boerum Hill or Carroll Gardens/Park Slope/Cobble Hill. Thoughts?

My other option would be to pick somewhere in Washington Heights or Morningside Heights.. how is parking at Morningside Heights during the week? I'm not too familiar with the area as I previously only lived in lower Manhattan or LIC Queens.

I'm probably getting ahead of myself as I don't have an offer yet, but this would probably be the biggest decision factor at this point.

There are a couple of ways to get out there - GWB to 80 to 287 then Rte 10.
I wouldn't recommend the Holland Tunnel - too much truck traffic and heavy traffic - all hours of the day. Suicide would be putting it mildly.

Parking is non-existent in Brooklyn - subject to alternate side of the street and is very limited in some of those neighborhoods.

Is there any reason why you would not consider living in other boroughs or NJ?

FrmlyBklyn - Haha, was hoping someone could convince me it was doable, but I guess not. I could try it out from my old neighborhood in Long Island City, the parking is pretty decent where I used to live, but the few times I took a car, it still took me about a half hour to get from the apt to Englewood Cliffs at 7am via the GW bridge & according to Google I still have another 40-some minutes to go. Bronx & Staten Island I don't know much about, and as for NJ.. ehh, I'm still in my mid-20's & my main draw to moving back was living in Manhattan/Brooklyn/Queens. Hoboken and Jersey City don't seem to be all that much different in price from the outer boroughs, and neither does Morristown which is supposed to be a nice place w/ 10-15 min. commute from the office.

Just1lion - it appears that the only bus stop that's actually walking distance from the office is the NJ Transit 79, which involves me transferring from the PATH from Newark. While it does present an alternative to car ownership, the commute seems even longer this way.

Well there is the train to east orange then 79 or lakeland to 79 in parsippany. The path is too slow dude. there is no need for a car for this kind of commute PM me for the fastest route I have done it before
