I'm moving to NYC from DC. I have a job waiting for me and starting in July.
I'm looking for an apartment in a managed building from 35th to 55th street between 10th & 5th avenue (want to stay close to work).
I was thinking i should be able to get something around 2500$.
If you guys know any apartment building in that area every input will be much appreciated !
You might find a studio for that price. That area 35th to 55th street between 8th & 5th avenue is mostly occupied by office buildings. Grocery, restaurants will be expensive due to all the offices nearby. Also, that area is highly congested (office workers, tourists, cars, trucks, etc).
Try UWS, Battery Park or Hoboken, NJ. I suggest coming to NYC and checking out the places.
I agree with the other posters. Move further uptown to the UWS. The 2/3 express will get you to your job in less than 10 minutes. One of my friends here is paying $2,600 or so for a 1/1 in luxury doorman on 96th with entirely new everything. He loves it.
Don't live in Midtown. I've known a lot of people who arranged for housing in Midtown because of proximity to their jobs, and were terribly disappointed once they got settled in. It's a business/tourist center, and for your price range, you can get a decent studio in the UWS. You'll appreciate the neighborhood once you move here and can't wait to get out of midtown after work. I'd say look downtown, even, but your budget is a bit low for that, and studios are generally crappier and dirtier down there. If you are intent on being in that general midtown vicinity, you're looking at Hells Kitchen/Clinton. Housing stock is hit or miss -- a lot of new development, but still a big supply of old housing stock. I'd prefer Murray Hill on the East Side.
Is taking the subway for 10-15 minutes not an option for you?
