Hello,

I'd like to go to Whole Foods at 97th Street and Columbus. Most likely I'll either take the 1 train or the C train to the 96th stop. Question: how safe is the area?

Esp. the subway stop on the C line at 96th street and then walking one block north to 97th street and then one block west from CPW to Columbus.

Those who know, would that be a safer bet than taking the 1 train, getting off at 96th Street walking up B'way to 97th and then walking east from B'way to Columbus?

I nearly got myself mugged further up somewhere in the 100's and Manhattan Ave. so I'm a bit skittish & not as self-confident as I used to be.

Thanks!

You should be OK. And one block closer if you take the B or C to the 96 Street station. Alternatively, depending on which direction you're coming from, the M7 and M11 buses could drop you off on the corner of 96th and either Amsterdam or Columbus.

It's safe!! I sometimes head up that way to go to Whole Foods as it is much quieter than the one at Columbus Circle. There is also a big Michael's, T J Maxx, Modell's and Home Goods store. All new and modern.
