Well there is no difference from the water in the fire hydrant than the water coming out of your tap. The fire hydrant taps into the same water line as your faucet does...it might even be safer as it is not traveling through potentially old lead pipes in your building.

It's a little different because usually people got extra filters in their
own home. But then I've been drinking waters from those drinking
fountains in school and the public parks growing up, and never got
sick because of it.
Well if you have an extra filter then yes, it would be different. If you simply drink out of the tap, like alot of people, then there is no difference.
