I am a female in my early 20's and am considering an apartment at 97th and Lexington. As I am new to NYC, I am worried about the safety of this area. I know that 96th is the cut-off point between the Upper East Side and East Harlem, and that there are a few major housing projects around that area. Should I be worried about walking home from the subway alone around 11pm during the week?

I will definitely be staying out late (till 2 or 3 am) on Friday and Saturday nights, and just want to make sure that I will be safe coming home. How safe is the 6 train at 96th and Lex?

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Completely safe.
The one block walk from the Lexington IRT (at 96th) or the M96 bus will not cause you one iota of trouble. When taking the Third Avenue bus home, perhaps walking to Lex along 96th instead of 97th is wiser late at night.

Very safe in my opinion. I have a few young coworkers that live there and really like it.
