I've encountered mosquitos every November in the city because usually its not quite cold enough to kill them off at this time of year. However, the cooler weather draws them inside or close to warm buildings. Once I killed a mosquito in my bedroom in December.
Oddly, I rarely get them in the summer when you'd expect them to be a big problem--only the fall.

Same. Started seeing them around mid-late August. Luckily this most recent cold snap seems to have gotten rid of them. I also noticed a lot more flies this year too.
So far so good, No skeeters in the house. I put on some anti-skeeter spray just in case. Did not want to get torn up like that again.
Also, They are attracted to people who have recently had sugar. That night, I had a big slice of pumpkin pie and sugared coffee. This was a buffet for them!
I haven't seen any but I read about those sewer mosquitos on the Upper West Side. Fortunately, I've read that mosquitos only go a couple hundred feet from where they hatched. So good news for me if that's true.
I am especially concerned because my immune sytem overresponds and after the huge welt I get a festering scabbing leakage that lasts for a week or two from every bite. It really is disgusting.
I watch HGTV and see the people oohing and ahhing over the back yard abutting a small algaed and cattailed lake and I think "there but for the grace of god, go I." They see a vista, all I see are BUGS!
If I lived in Florida, I'd be dead in a year.
My reaction to bug-bites is one of the reasons NYC is so high on my list of desirable cities.
Are all of you encountering bites on the UWS?
