I personally don't mind the smaller, more intimate places.
There are still some big venues in NYC. Some are divided up into floors but massive sq footage = tons of people.
Still smaller than they heyday, but yes, you are right. Some decent venues close to Union Square. There are still some decent sized venues in Brooklyn. But still, this is a different city with a different mood to it, and even the larger venues something of a different purpose.
could yall give examples of some of these large clubs that play a lot of hip hop? i only know webster hall
Amensia was one, another is Jay z 40 40 club which is really off the hook. There is a place in Harlem I forgot its name. Sad thing about Hip Hop clubs is that it attracts plenty of gun play, plenty of house/techno clubs attracted many drug users who will od and pass out. Nowadays most establishments solely mix billboard top 40 and try real hard to disassociate with full on rap and house music. Here in my neighborhood in Mott Haven there is a place called Oze Tavern, hip hop artist ehovwant to be up and coming battle it out, cute ebony ladies with jigglee butts, however they give me no play.

Sadly Amnesia is one of the larger ones. As was talked about early there are no big mega clubs anymore, especially that play hip hop. Your just not gonna find what you did back in the 90s.
Again check out Crimson.

Thats the point I'm making. There aren't huge clubs anymore. What are called clubs are really lounges to most who been clubbing back in the day to places that had 3 floors but this is how it is.
Look NYC does not mega clubs anymore, even here in Mott Haven there used to be a place called Underground and it was located in a warehouse even youths had a place to go to called the Skatekey not to skate but to dance to hip hop and see people like Jay Z who would come to sing once in a blue. Does days are long long gone. Your not gonna find large clubs anymore these days here in NYC. And I'm gonna say this is that its all about these small intimate places with 300 dollar table bottle service and velvet carpets, its called a lounge. I'm not sure if the megaclub scene will ever return to NYC but at least these types of venues Transplanted to other parts of America by ex New Yorkers to Miami and Vegas which are now club party meccas for the whole entire country. I miss you Limelight, Twilo, Soundfactory, the Tunnel, Paladium.
