Sorry if the question is too vague, but here are some of my searching criteria:
1) Will be working in downtown Manhattan
2) Relocating with my small family
3) Excellent Elementary school system for the child
4) Decent neighbourhood
5) No problem to commute (if I have to); since I am not going to sacrifice (3) & (4) above.
Live in manhattan try to find some nice apartments or condos. The commute is fast if u take the subway. Taking a bus or taxi to downtown will get u in traffic trust i live here. neigborhoods kind of tricky because there is a catch u can live in bad neighborhood but live next to a nice one causing to live in a nice neigborhood. Try to live on the upper west or east. Anywhere below is full and expensive. Try to find nice condo in harlem. Schools it depends public schools i dont know ive been in private school all my life a good private school is Holy name they have a website holyname.com
With your budget and wants, you won't be able to afford anything in Manhattan. You might try the boroughs, or Westchester or NJ, but that's not much money for 2-3 bedrooms.
Glen Oaks Village in Queens might meet your criteria. They have relatively affordable coops. Excellent school system. But it's near the Long Island border, so the commute would be longer than some other areas in the five boroughs. Safe too. I grew up there.
