How far a decent place to stay for $600-700 would be to NYC.? 10 miles? 1 hour? Any city/town names? It should be a studio or 1 bedroom apt, not shared room. I know it sounds a stupid question for some but it is a serious one for somebody 40 yrs old, willing to live alone.
Thanks in advance.

A similar question was asked and answered here //www.city-data.com/forum/new-y...ithin-1-a.html
although the answers did not necessarily concentrate on "decent" places.

Thanks Henna. I searched the threads but apparently missed that one.

The new HPD housing are also an option. They accept section 8 as long as you meet all the other requierments. These are mostly in the southern part of the borough the Bronx with proximity to the city.

Only one application at a time to the same development otherwise you will be automatically disqualified,

Una aplicación por solicitante. Aquellas personas que envíen más de una aplicación serán automáticamente descalificados.

Apply – Espanol « St. Ann's Terrace Apartments

You'll be hard pressed to find something in that range unless you're willing to:
1. Live in a bad area
2. Willing to have a long commute to Manhattan.

I know someone who lived in a gated community complex in the Rockways for $650 for a 1BR. The downside is the commute is an hour and a half easily to Manhattan on a good day.

I know in the buildings around me in Flushing there are 800$ studios.

Two-fare zone, 1.25 hour to midtown.

I live in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, and I'm actually looking for someone to take over my lease. I live two blocks away from the N train, on 20th ave (you can google map to see where I live). It's $800 a month with all utilities included!!! I'm moving because I am being flown out to another state for an interview and there's a VERY good chance they'll make an offer. Reply if you're interested! The lease is for 9 more months, possibly 8 if I'm not out of here by the end of March. No broker's fee, this is just a straight lease reassignment and the landlord lives downstairs (it's a 2 story brick townhouse, there's a family--wife husband kid--across the hall from me and my roommate. My roommate is male.

It's 35 minutes away from Canal St and it's a very safe neighborhood. I'm female and I've gone home in the wee early hours of the morning and I haven't been bothered.
