I found it interesting and I remember hearing about the racial tensions in NY during this time mostly between working class white new yorkers(italians, irish, polish, jews) and blacks/ricans. I know there was many murders because of this in the 70s - 90s where minorities went into white neighborhoods and were beaten with bats or shot(One of the most famous being Yusef Hawkins). Is this still an issue?

Yeah it is, expect this time it is mainly black/hispanic youth that likes to attack whites in gangs, even in their own neighborhoods.

yeah. it's just more self-hate and the races kill their own race now.

It was only a few years ago when a group of black and hispanic teens from my neck of the woods (Cypress Hills) went to Howard Beach during Halloween. A group of white teens threw eggs at them resulting in the blacks and hispanics to return with bats...

Thou remember that's Howard Beach, probably the only neighborhood in NYC where minorities would still get attacked or name called at random.

Other than that I see white, hispanic, and black groupies all the time... Of course in the hood you'll probably just see black/hispanic groupies only because there aren't much whites there and vice versa.

Not really, but in Staten Island there was a major issue a year ago of black youth randomly attacking Mexican youth in the Port Richmond area. So much that they had to put extra police in the area to curtail the problem.

I haven't noticed it anywhere else really. The neighborhoods are no longer deeply ethnically embedded like they were 20 years ago.

I agree with you most of the time but this is a very stupid comment Doomdan and one that isn't factual whatsoever... Unfortunately in this city, blacks and hispanics mainly go after two kinds of people... Blacks and hispanics... And you can confirm that by looking at the perpetrators and victims of crimes in this city year in and year out...

NYC, unlike most other cities, isn't a place that has high racial tension especially in comparison with the way it used to be (racial issues have increased slightly in recent years due to gentrification and the h-word but nowhere near the point of 70s-90s)... If you see a white kid fighting a spanish kid in high school or a black kid fighting a white kid nowadays... The reason is most likely either a) girl related b) gang related c) sports related... other than that 99% of the time the crimes you see are not race based... One final point, you will see certain moronic individuals use one or two specific examples in the last 5 years to prove their point but fact is, those tensions are long gone thankfully and the youth as well as the adults today don't have to worry about these issues anymore...

True, but many white liberals like hipsters think they can contradict a stereotype by walking into a neighborhood they don't belong and they will be protected by their ideologies or some sentimental loyalties. It just doesn't work like that.
