As we joke and call Whole Foods, "Whole Paycheck" this is yet another sign of gentrification in Brooklyn. I am all for neighborhood improvement but it troubles me that things upscale so much that people are constantly being displaced by rising costs. I'm not surprised, though. Everything that hugs the East River is prime real estate these days.

well with all the red tape that goes on with it, it will be a wonder if it ever gets built.

this has been going on for years, some people feel it is going to ruin the neighborhood that is desolate, alongside a toxic canal, next to a dilapidated land marked building that should have been torn down years ago....

and the area is a complete waste land.

i am all for it, this area needs to be cleaned up and re vitilized already.

That would be a great plus for the area if Whole Foods can open there, and would help to reinvigorate interest in the community. I don't know why anyone would be against investment in Gowanus as anything is better than the decay that currently exists.

As to the expense of WF, that depends upon what one purchases there as their own house brand is very competitively priced. The meat, exotic items, etc. are a bit more expensive, but the quality is also high.
