Hello,
I would like to start by saying thank you to those whom have read and replied to this post,so THANK YOU!
I will be applying for the Iron worker's union soon and I have a few questions.
1. What should I expect on the aptitude test? Is it difficult? Is there anyway I can prepare? Any books, websites or reading material?
2. If I get called back for the physical test, what should I expect as well? Is it a physical given by a doctor, or do I have to do things? I've read that, I might have to walk on a beam to test balance. Also, does anyone have advice on how to prepare for this or other things I may have to do?
3. I've also heard that people have waited 15 hours in line to take this exam or even get an application. Is this the case, and if so how can I get around this?
4. I've heard that people with family members/friends in the union get picked before everyone else? Is it true?
Also, If anyone has any other advice or tips, I urge you to please share.
On the website it said, those that do best on exams will start work in August of 2012.
It is CRUCIAL for me to be accepted and start to work ASAP! I have not worked for a while and the walls are closing in on me.
I have worked manual labor jobs before and also worked for a masonry company for a few months, but quit because I was called for another union job in a plumbing supply company, from which I was later laid off from. I have 2 years of college behind me from a private university(idk if that helps)
Once again, any info is greatly appreciated and I thank you all once more.
