Hi all,

I am planning to move to NYC in a few months and I am looking for an apartment. My budget is $3000 a month and at least 1 bed. If possible, I'd like a 2 beds apartment with gym.

What is the best neighborhood for me given the information above?

Thank you very much!

With $3K a month for rent you can live in brooklyn heights/dumbo. I know a luxury building over there with a gym. 1 bedroom apt starts at $2500.

Nothing on Manhattan? What is the name of the luxury building and exact location?

Thank you!

You can find something in the Upper West or Upper East side but it might be a studio or in a not so desirable location (like next to FDR drive or in a 5 story walk-up building).

If you search Craigslist, there are several apartments- studios to 1 bedrooms- available in the Lower East Side, the Village and Financial District and Midtown East. I have many friends paying $2500-3000/month for nice places in Manhattan - I think your budget is more than reasonable..

only 3K, I feel bad for you, you might end up living in a tenement on the lower east side.
you wont get a gym, but you will get 5 flights of stairs to get your workout done regularly

For $3000, you will probably get a 550 sq. ft 1BR in upper west side, in older buildings. It won't be too luxurious. However, if you can pay $3500, there are more choices in midtown, downtown areas of Manhattan but using a gym may be extra.

$3,000/month to live in a chicken coop without any equity. Yes, great idea.

Yeah sorry for what you want and your budget, Brooklyn or LIC is the best bang for your buck.

You can live very comfortably anywhere you want for $3,000. If you want Manhattan, 2 beds, and gym, you can easily get 2 out of 3 and maybe all 3. The idea that $3,000 is at the low end of UWS or LES rentals is nuts. It's solidly in the middle.

Here is a search with what you asked for
StreetEasy: Apartments for Rent in Manhattan for rent by owner or management company or broker-represented under $3,000 with 2 bedrooms with gym

The neighborhoods that are coming up are East Harlem, Yorkville, Upper East Side, Financial District, Central Harlem and Roosevelt Island.

If you dropped one of your restrictions -- like maybe the need for a gym in the building-- you could probably expand into better neighborhoods. Or if you look for a one bedroom instead of a two. The search I provided is for 2 bedrooms.
