Fans of the New York City Hollywood portrays always think Manhattan is ALL GOOD, ALL THE TIME and the rest of New York City is filled with blue collar crowds and crime.

As others have mentioned, there's way more to New York City than what you see on television and there's much more to Manhattan than the glitzy galleries in SoHo, the swanky luxury apartments of the Upper East Side, the Theater District, and the halls of commerce and finance down on Wall Street.

Manhattan's filled with ethnic ghettos, sometimes just a few blocks away from fancy neighborhoods.

I personally would steer clear of living in Chinatown, Lower East Side, East Village, Hell's Kitchen/West Midtown, Carnegie Hill, Spanish Harlem, Harlem, and Washington Heights. I might even throw Chelsea into that list just because of the projects.
