Murray Hill is a bit younger, more the post college set, except for the historic district and a condo building.
I'd say that Murry Hill is practically a college campus with all of the 20-somethigns running around!
I'd suggest the upper east. I really like Streeteasy.com as a real estate resource to get a sense of what is out there at different price points in different neighborhoods.
Thanks for the info. I had no idea that Murray Hill was that way. I guess we should take it off the list. I've seen some ads for the Mercedes House property. What would that be like?
Cruzmore,
Add RELATED to your list of high rise rentals...they own/manage a gazillion nice doormen rental high rises.
Yes, yppu will do FAR better with these large organizations than trying to sort through the few condo-rentals and dealing with a broker.
Just call or visit them one by one and state your needs and see wht they are charging for what you want. The all will have a slew of available apartments. (It seems that every second tall building on the UES is RELATED.)
Yes, I concur that UES is probably your best choice with the largest selection as well.
On Grammercy Park? FORGET IT (or is that fuggedabout it?)

The main issues with Mercedes House, Silver Towers, and other newer luxury buildings on the far west side of Midtown is that the neighborhood is not as established as the UES or UWS. The area does not have the variety or number of grocery stores, restaurants, etc. as you would find on the UES or UWS. I agree that the UES, and other east side areas, are easier because your offices will be Midtown East, which would save a trek from the UWS.

Are you only looking in Manhattan? Have you considered your money can stretch much more in the outer boroughs like Brooklyn/Queens - and maybe even parts of New Jersey?
I think we have decided on Manhattan. Coming from the south like we are, we want something different. Since we won't have to worry about kids or anything else, it seems like we are at a perfect time in our lives to live in Manhattan and truly immerse ourselves in what New York has to offer.
We will be selling/leaving our cars behind, so we will definitely need to be within walking distance of the things we want, like the Subway, shopping, etc.
The UES does sound like it has most of what we want, plus the ability to easily get to Central Park which I think would be a nice bonus.
